Video is important to your business, and so is your website. The ultimate goal is to get your video, website, and offers in front of the right people.
There is little use to a video or a website if no one sees it. Right?
For years (since 2010), Google has been saying that how fast your website loads directly affects how your website ranks (https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2010/04/using-site-speed-in-web-search-ranking). And we all want to rank on top of the Google Search results. Don’t we?
Earlier this year, Google started to roll out an algorithm update to consider page experience when ranking websites. https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/experience/page-experience
Luckily, not only does Google expect us to improve page experience, but they also give us a tool to check how Google sees our websites. It’s called Google Page Speed Insights (GPSI – https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights).
Basically, GPSI gives your website a rating, where 100 is good, and 0 is bad. And if Google tells us how they see our website and that this will affect how it ranks, you better listen as a small business owner.
When we tested Innovate Media’s website, innovatemedia.com.au on GPSI, it scored 9 out of 100. We then tested innovatemedia.com.au using a second tool, GTmetrix. GTmetrix looks at your website slightly differently but also gives you a rating. On GTmetrix, innovatemedia.com.au scored an F. Where F is bad, and A is good.

This means that when someone visited innovatemedia.com.au for the first time, it would take over 30 seconds for the website to be fully interactive. Within 3 seconds, things started to load, and they could engage with the website, but 30 seconds is a very long time, and clearly, Google did not like this.
When you view your own website, it doesn’t seem to take long to load. But that is because you have been to your own website before. Your browser cached your site, thereby speeding up the loading process for subsequent viewing sessions.
If someone clicks on a paid Google or Facebook ad who has never been to your website, they have to wait for your website to fully load. And it might only be 5 seconds. There is a good chance that they will leave and never see your site. Obviously, we want to change that. And it took quite a bit longer for Innovate Media’s website to load.
I run Cloud Clicks, a Sunshine Coast-based digital advertising agency specialising in blazing-fast websites and digital advertising solutions. We were hired to review and speed up Innovate Media’s website.
When we completed their website optimisation, Innovate Media’s Google Page Speed Metrics went from 12 to 74, and their GTmetrix grade went from F to A.
Quite the improvement, isn’t it?
