Volunteering Sunshine Coast received a grant from the Sunshine Coast Council to share the wonderful stories of youth volunteers in the region. The aim of the community awareness campaign was to promote volunteering opportunities on the Coast within the youth target audience – while highlighting the rewards of achievement, fulfillment and personal development, as well as a message that volunteering isn’t time consuming.

With the first grant, a set of three stories were developed following a survey of existing volunteers. We interviewed the shortlist of candidates to determine the best stories to capture, then worked with the various organisations and parents of the volunteers to gain permissions and coordinate the video production process.

Our strength as video producers lies in creating narratives that humanise a business or organisation using storytelling techniques. To explain why volunteering is so important for the community as a whole, as well as the individual partaking in the activity, a thorough story gathering and research process during the pre-production phase was required. We conducted phone pre-interviews to determine suitable story angles, scripted the lines of questions, and filmed the live interviews while ensuring that each volunteers unique personality shone through.
